Reid suggested instead that they reconstruct part of a traditional Haida village. He and Doug Cranmer spent three years carving totems, mortuary poles (these were erected to the memory of particularly powerful chiefs and held the remains of the chiefs in a box at the top of the pole), a long house and a mortuary house.
